We start by looking at how you move.

What it is

A closer look,
before the hands-on.

Applied kinesiology looks at posture, movement and how muscles respond to gentle resistance. We use it to understand how you move, then shape your session around it.

Look first

We watch how you stand and move before any hands-on work, so the session starts with what we can see, not guesses.

Gentle checks

Simple, comfortable movement and light resistance checks show how different areas respond. You stay in control and can skip any of them.

Plain-language notes

You hear what we noticed in everyday words, and how we plan to use it in your massage.

Start with how you move. What we notice guides the session. It does not replace a doctor.

What it is

  • A hands-on movement and posture assessment
  • Simple checks you can skip or stop at any time
  • Findings shared in plain language
  • Offered as a wellness service, often alongside massage

What it is not

  • A medical diagnosis or a medical test
  • A way to detect allergies, illnesses or nutrient needs
  • A replacement for medical care
  • A promise of any particular result
Straight talk. Some practitioners use muscle testing to claim they can diagnose conditions or find allergies. Research has not shown it to be reliable for that, so we do not use it for that. We use movement and gentle muscle checks as observations that help us choose where to focus your massage, and nothing more.
Movement lab

Six checks.
One clear picture.

Tap a check to see what we watch for. It is a simplified illustration, and you only ever do what feels comfortable.

Check 1 of 6

Neck side-bend

We watch how far your head tilts to each side, and whether one side feels tighter or slower than the other.

Why we lookLong days at a screen can leave one side of the neck working harder. Seeing it helps us decide where to spend time.
Comfort tipEasy and slow, never forced
Check 2 of 6

Arm raise

We watch how your shoulder blades move as you lift each arm out to the side.

Why we lookAn uneven lift can reflect habits, like carrying a bag on one shoulder or resting on one arm.
Comfort tipLift only as far as feels comfortable
Check 3 of 6

Side lean

We watch how your trunk bends from side to side, and whether your hips stay steady.

Why we lookIt shows whether your back and hips share the work evenly or one side does more.
Comfort tipSlide your hand down the leg, no reaching
Check 4 of 6

Slow squat

We watch how your hips, knees and feet line up as you sit back into a slow, shallow squat.

Why we lookKnees drifting in or heels lifting may show where tight areas are limiting your movement.
Comfort tipHold a chair if you like
Check 5 of 6

One-leg balance

We watch how steady you are on one leg, and how your hips and ankles adjust to hold you up.

Why we lookBalance shows how well your body coordinates. A difference between sides is useful to know about.
Comfort tipStay near a wall or the table
Check 6 of 6

Overhead reach

We watch how far both arms can reach overhead without your lower back arching.

Why we lookA limited reach may point to tight shoulders, chest or upper back, which helps us choose where to focus.
Comfort tipReach, breathe, stop when it feels full

Every check is adapted to you. If anything feels uncomfortable, say so and we will skip or change it.

Your session

Talk. Move.
Share. Work.

Good work starts with a good look at how you move. Here is how your session unfolds.

01

Talk

A short chat about how you feel, what you do all day and what you would like from the hour. Tell us about injuries, surgery or anything we should work around.

02

Move

A few simple checks, standing and lying down: posture, six easy movements and some light resistance work. You can skip or stop any of them.

03

Share

We tell you what we noticed in plain language, and how we plan to use it in your session. Questions are welcome.

04

Work

In longer sessions, a massage that follows what we found, with a few simple habits to take home.

What you leave with

Clear notes,
not a mystery.

You walk out knowing what we saw and what we did about it.

A clear picture

A plain-language summary of how you stand and move, and where you seem to hold more.

Patterns worth knowing

Everyday habits that may be adding to tightness, like how you sit, carry or favour one side.

A massage with a plan

In longer sessions, hands-on work guided by what we noticed rather than a one-size routine.

Simple habits to try

One or two easy things for home, like a shoulder reset or a short walk, chosen for you.

What we notice is an observation about how you move today. It is not a diagnosis, and results vary from person to person.

Who it may suit

For the curious
and the creaky.

Long desk days

You sit a lot, and your neck, shoulders or back often feel stiff by evening.

Active bodies

You train or play sport and would like another set of eyes on how you move.

Curious about movement

You like to understand your body and want a clear picture before the bodywork starts.

One-sided habits

You carry a bag on one shoulder, cross the same leg or always sleep on one side.

Between sessions

You get bodywork regularly and want it to be better matched to how you move.

Easing back in

You would like to get moving again and want to start with a gentle look at where you are.

  • You cannot put weight on a leg or move a joint
  • New swelling, numbness or weakness
  • Chest pain or shortness of breath
  • Fainting, or dizziness that does not settle

Questions

Good to know.

What is applied kinesiology?

The name is used for a hands-on approach that looks at posture, movement and how muscles respond to gentle resistance. At Kinezio we use it as a movement assessment that helps guide your massage, and we offer it as a wellness service.

Do you diagnose conditions or find allergies with muscle testing?

No. Some practitioners claim muscle testing can detect illnesses, allergies or nutrient needs, but research has not shown it to be reliable for that. We do not use it to diagnose anything, and it is never a replacement for medical tests.

Is there scientific evidence for it?

Looking at posture and movement is a normal part of many bodywork and fitness sessions, and many people find it useful for deciding where to focus. Research on muscle testing as a way to diagnose conditions is limited and mixed, so we make no diagnostic or treatment claims.

What happens in a session?

A short chat, a few simple movement and light resistance checks, then plain-language findings and, in longer sessions, a massage that follows what we noticed. You can skip or stop any check.

Will it hurt?

No. The checks are gentle and should never be painful. Tell us if anything feels uncomfortable and we will stop or change it.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothes you can move in, like a t-shirt with leggings or shorts. For the massage part you undress to your comfort level and are covered with a sheet or towel.

Who should check with a doctor first?

If you have a recent injury or surgery, balance problems, a medical reason to avoid some movements, or sudden severe pain, please talk to your doctor and tell us before booking. We may adapt the session or suggest something else.

Is this medical treatment?

No. Our services are wellness services and are not a substitute for medical care. If you have an injury or a medical condition, please consult your doctor first.
